Governments

Governments create and implement the legal environment to prevent and respond to child sexual exploitation and abuse online. Countries work together through the WeProtect Global Alliance to ensure they are following the latest and best advice. National law enforcement authorities are responsible for investigating crimes and enforcing the laws.

Through the Model National Response, governments and other members can check they are taking all the steps needed to protect children online.

To ensure the interests of all our members are represented, we have put in place a number of membership reference groups. These groups provide opportunities for members to drive a global response, highlight good and emerging practice and influence policy discussions and WeProtect Global Alliance’s outputs. This includes a Global Taskforce on child sexual abuse online, including the European Union (chair), the African Union (vice-chair) and twenty governments from around the world. The taskforce aims to promote improved cooperation and collaboration among governments and ensure there are no safe havens for the facilitation or hosting of child sexual abuse online. The Global Taskforce was established at the 2022 Global Summit and meets twice a year.
